THREE days since his arrival from Spain with several Gilas Pilipinas players, wantaway star Paul Lee has yet to speak with Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao.
Just hours after the end of Gilas' campaign in the Fiba World Cup, Lee said he will head straight to Rain or Shine’s practice and sort things out with Rain or Shine when he arrives in Manila.
So what gives?
Guiao, however, said on Tuesday he is in no rush to talk to Lee about the team’s offer of a three-year extension deal worth P15.2 million, saying the six-foot guard needs time to “carefully weigh his options” before making his final decision.
“Di ko naman siya (Lee) minamadali. Ang sabi ko nga sa kanya, magpunta muna siya sa advisers niya at magtanong para makapag-isip-isip din,” Guiao told Spin.ph on Tuesday after the team’s practice.
Based on his recent talk with Lee when the three-year guard was still in Seville, Spain, Guiao said he is optimistic the prized gunner out of the University of the East will choose to stay with the Elasto Painters.
“Sa naging second talk namin nung nasa Spain pa si Paul, medyo nagli-lean siya na babalik siya sa team, that’s why ’di rin naman ako nagmamadali, dahil alam ko na babalik din siya sa team,” said the veteran coach.
At the moment, Guiao isn’t requiring Lee to show up in practice. Instead, he believes Lee needs to rest his mind and body so he can make the right decision later on.
“Ayaw ko naman kasi siya ma-influence sa natural desire niya. I don’t force him to come to practice because right now, what he needs is rest, both mind and body,” he added.
