PAUL Lee said Rain or Shine’s emphatic 123-85 lopsided win over Blackwater in Wednesday was like pressing the refresh button for the struggling Elasto Painters in their PBA Governors Cup campaign.
The victory improved the Elasto Painters’ record to 2-4 and gives them a huge confidence boost heading to their road game against Talk ‘N Text this weekend in a rematch between the protagonists of the last Commissioner’s Cup Finals.
Lee said the team doesn’t need to hear any more extra motivational speeches from coach Yeng Guiao when it goes up against the Tropang Texters in Bacolod City this Saturday.
That Talk ‘N Text beat Rain or Shine in double overtime in the decisive Game Seven of the mid-season conference finals is motivation enough, Lee added.
“Sinasabi ni coach Yeng na di na kami kailangan i-motivate (against Talk ‘N Text). Alam naman namin ano ang sitwasyon namin. Kaya kailangan lang magtulungan kami para umabot kami sa playoffs,” Lee said.
The Rain or Shine combo guard added the season-ending meet is an altogether different chapter for the Asian Coating franchise.
The Elasto Painters may have fallen short after losing to the Tropang Texters in the first double-overtime in a Game Seven of the Finals. But for Lee, what’s important is the Elasto Painters start playing team basketball again.
“Must-win talaga kami sa Saturday sa Bacolod. Eh ang Talk ‘N Text, alam naman natin na dangerous team sila kasi at any given night, kaya nila tumambak ng 20 or 30 points sa game,” explained the former University of the East star.
“Ready lang dapat kami saka kailangan maipanalo namin yung game. Ganun ka-importante yun sa amin.”
For Rain or Shine import Wendell McKines, achieving the team’s first back-to-back wins this conference will be easy once everybody learns to watch each other’s back.
“What’s important for us (going up against Talk ‘N Text) is we play together, play with confidence, and play physical. That gives us a chance,” said McKines, who personally witnessed Rain or Shine bag a third runner-up finish in the last two seasons.
The Elasto Painters are facing a Tropang Texters side that has lost its last two games, including a 119-85 beating at the hands of the Meralco Bolts on Tuesday.
