PAUL Lee has expressed his willingness to re-sign with Rain or Shine after ending his self-imposed exile by appearing in the team's practice on Tuesday, according to head coach Yeng Guiao.
Guiao had a heart-to-heart talk with his star guard during the team's practice at the Nega gym, asking Lee point-blank if he still wants to stay with the only team he has played for in three seasons in the PBA.
"Simple lang naman, tinanong ko siya (Lee) kung gusto pa ba niya maglaro sa amin. Ang sabi niya, gusyo niya maglaro sa amin, so tapos," Guiao told Spin.ph after their talk that lasted for about 15 minutes.
On the protracted and controversial negotiations, Guiao said communications may have broke down somewhere while the free agent guard was with Gilas Pilipinas in its Fiba World Cup campaign in Seville, Spain.
Lee's agent Lawrence Chongson's tirades against Rain or Shine management also muddled the issue, he added.
But most of all, the multi-titled coach said he assured the former Rookie of the Year that the team values him as well as his contributions in three years as an Elasto Painter.
"In-explain ko lang ang background ng nangyari kasi baka akala niya hindi namin vina-value yung mga nagawa niya sa team," explained the fiery Rain or Shine mentor.
"At least naintindihan na niya," he added.
Guiao said he has asked Lee to personally pay Rain or Shine co-owners Terry Que and Raymund Yu a visit and thresh things out before signing a three-year, P15.2 million deal offered by the Elasto Painters.
"Sila boss na ang bahala sa pagpirma ni Paul. Basta sinabi ko lang eh puntahan na niya ang mga team owners para magkausap na sila," said Guiao.
