BETTER not rule Paul Lee out of Gilas Pilipinas 3.0.
Rain or Shine insiders have raised hope that the crack guard may yet reprise his role for Gilas after top officials indicated their willingness to release him to the national team bound for the Fiba Asia championships next month.
Rain or Shine, a staunch supporter of the Gilas program in the past, has so far allowed Gabe Norwood to suit up for the team as part of the 16-man pool made available by the PBA to the national team.
But according to sources, the popular PBA ballclub's bigwigs have made it known that they are also willing to make Lee available just to enhance Gilas' chances in the China tournament serving as Asia's qualifying for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Now only talks among the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, PBA officials, and Rain or Shine management to clear the road for Lee's return to the national side.
According to his manager Lawrence Chongson, the former University of the East standout arrived on Monday from a long stay in the US where he spent time with his ailing grandmother.
Chongson said Lee has not been notified of a possible return to the Gilas pool but stays in shape just the same by joining the Chongson-coached D-League team Tanduay in its practices.
Although Lee was not part of the list of 16 PBA players made available to Gilas, league officials themselves have said they hope more players will be added to the pool once they become available.
Lee had an impressive stint with Gilas in the 2014 Fiba World Cup in Spain and the Asian Games in Korea and should be a good addition to the current pool, which is still wanting in the backcourt.
