PAUL Lee joined the PBA’s 5,000-point club on Friday during Magnolia’s match against Blackwater in the Commissioner’s Cup.
Lee became the 92th member of the elite group and 24th among active players, according to PBA statistics head Fidel Mangonon, after he scored 25 points in the Hotshots’ 104-99 overtime loss to the Elite on Friday.
The eight-year veteran, however, said he would have rather taken the victory.
“Siyempre, mas importante pa rin ‘yung panalo ngayon. Still sad. Sayang ‘yung games. We know na we can win this game pero siguro hindi napunta sa amin. Try to move on and be ready for our next game,” said Lee.
The loss ended Magnolia’s five-game winning streak as the Hotshots dropped to 5-3 ahead of the match against Barangay Ginebra on Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum. They also dropped to fourth place.
Lee’s feat was overshadowed by the heroics of Roi Sumang, who incidentally is also a Tondo native. Lee hopes that the Hotshots will learn their lesson from the loss.
“Si Roi, capable siya sa ganung game. ‘Yun nga lang, hindi kami naging ready sa ganung sitwasyon. We need to learn sa nangyari kanina. I think it’s a good thing na nangyari na ‘yun para kapag dumating uli ‘yung ganung sitwasyon, hindi na mauulit,” said Lee.
