BARANGAY Ginebra’s campaign in the PBA Governors Cup has yet to fully take off when a spate of bad news hounded the Kings once again.

Import Paul Harris suffered a hyperxtended right thumb fracture late in the third quarter of the team’s game against Globalport Batang Pier Saturday night, and prospect of him missing the entire conference looms in the horizon.

Harris hurt the thumb as he attempted to block the shot of Batang Pier counterpart Dominique Sutton with 1:03 to go in the third period and Globalport barely ahead, 61-60. The Kings went on to win the game, 93-81.

Team doctor Enrique Pagulayan said the extent of Harris’ injury is serious enough that Ginebra should expect the worse.

“We don’t want to be negative about it, but he could be out for the rest of the season,” said Pagulayan inside the Ginebra dugout. “Expect the worse.”

Pagulayan immediately accompanied Harris at St. Lukes hospital at Bonifacio Global City to have the injured right thumb examined.

“Pero may ibang cases din naman na nilalaro yung ganyang injury. Si Ronald (Tubid, formerly of Ginebra) ganyan din ang nangyari pero nakalaro pa rin siya,” said the Ginebra doctor.

“Although itong kay Paul medyo hindi maganda.”

Pagulayan said Harris' thumb could have hit the head or the back of Sutton as he tried to go after the shot of the Globalport import.

"Obviously, hindi bola yung tinamaan niya kasi hindi ganyan ang injury niya kung bola lang," he said. "Tingin ko baka ulo o yung likod ni Sutton ang tinamaan niya."

Coach Tim Cone also said he heard about how serious the injury is, which he labeled as compound fracture.

"It would be heartbreaking should we lose him," he said of the hardworking import.

Harris finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds in 33 minutes of action for the Kings.
