GlobalPort signs seven-footer Patrick O'Bryant, Palestinian Omar Krayem for Governors Cup

    Apr 28, 2015

OUT for redemption after two trying conferences, GlobalPort has tapped the services of seven-foot former NBA player Patrick O’Bryant and Palestinian playmaker Omar Krayem as imports for the PBA Governors Cup.

O’Bryant, selected ninth overall by the Golden State Warriors in the 2006 NBA Draft, is expected to arrive in Manila this weekend.

“Manggagaling si O’Bryant sa Las Vegas, so inaayos na lang yung ticket niya papunta dito. Pero nakapirma na siya ng kontrata,” a GlobalPort team insider told on Tuesday.

O’Bryant earned a reputation as a shotblocker and was named the 2012 Defensive Player of the Year in the Puerto Rican basketball league.

The 28-year-old former standout from Bradley averaged 12.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 30 games, helping Indios de Mayaguez win the 2012 championship in the Puerto Rican league.

The 6-foot-1 Krayem, coming off an impressive performance with Umea in the Swedish basketball league, arrives on Wednesday evening.

The 28-year-old Palestinian playmaker averaged 20.7 points, 7.1 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals for Umea in the 2014-15 season of the Swedish basketball league.

Globalport is hoping to get a huge boost from the two imports, plus recent trade acquisitions Doug Kramer and Billy Mamaril, after winning a combined nine games in the first two conferences this season.
