Head-hunting firm set to come onboard to aid search for next PBA commissioner

    Mar 2, 2015

THE search for the next Philippine Basketball Association commissioner will take more than just the input of three members of the PBA board in the search committee led by league chairman Patrick Gregorio.

Spin.ph learned from a very reliable source that Gregorio and his group held an initial meeting with a major Philippine-based head-hunting firm to step up the search for the successor of outgoing chieftain Chito Salud.

Gregorio along with committee members Rene Pardo and Mamerto Mondragon sat down with executives of Global Executive Solutions Group (GESG) on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum to have an initial discussion about the matter.

“Nag-meet na yung search committee kasama yung Global Executive Solutions nung Biyernes sa Araneta Coliseum para matingnan kung puwede sila makatulong sa paghahanap ng kapalit ni commissioner (Salud),” the source disclosed on Monday.

GESG, a Makati-based firm, is being eyed to serve as the ‘fourth man’ in the search committee, whose main job is to give inputs and help Gregorio and Co. find the person fit to succeed Salud at the helm of Asia’s first ever play-for-pay league.

The same source said Salud himself has been tasked by the search committee to negotiate with GESG pertaining to the services it will render.

Once GESG comes onboard, the search committee will make the recommendation to the league board for its final approval this weekend at the sidelines of the All-Star Weekend in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

The board initially met last Thursday to discuss the qualifications needed for the league’s next commissioner.

“Di pa naman siya final, pero malaking head-hunting agency iyan. For now, si Com. Salud ang magne-negotiate sa rate kung mahal ba or okay naman, kasi once nag-okay sa negotiation, ipapa-approve na siya sa board,” added the source.

Last month, Salud announced he is stepping down from his post by the end of the league’s 40th season after serving the PBA since 2010.

Gregorio reiterated the board intends to name the new commissioner on or before the end of the on-going Commissioner’s Cup.
