Rain or Shine and Petron Blaze hope to keep the momentum of their previous victories when they face off Saturday night in a PBA Governors’ Cup out-of-town game in Dumaguete City.
Both teams go into the 6:35 p.m. game on the back of triumphs last Sunday with the Painters defeating Barako Bull, 100-90, and the Boosters beating sister team B-Meg, 92-80.
With a semifinal slot secure, the first-placed Painters are just looking for consistency as they gear up for the next round.
Against the Energy, the Painters momentarily held their breath after rookie sensation Paul Lee went down with a dislocated shoulder in the second quarter. But the fearless playmaker is expected to be back against Petron.
TY Tang did a decent job stepping in for Lee as he scored nine points and handed out five assists, while Jireh Ibañes stepped up on defense, limiting Barako import Leroy Hickerson to just 24 points.
RoS hopes to have the same production from their role players and even bigger numbers from its stars Jamelle Cornley, Jeff Chan, Gabe Norwood, and Jervy Cruz to keep up with the peaking Boosters.
Petron is nearly at full strength with sniper Don Don Hontiveros finally returning in their last game. Only Marcio Lassiter is sidelined in the squad.
A win for the Boosters, in fourth spot with a 4-3 win-loss card, will formalize their entry into the next round.
The Boosters hope Jay Washington would replicate his spectacular showing against the Llamados when he lit up for a career-high-tying 29 points on 11-for-17 shooting from the field.
