IN a few months' time, Manny Pacquiao may be involved in not just one but three basketball leagues.
Pacquiao, who is set to make his debut as playing-coach of PBA expansion team Kia Motors next season, has signified his intention to field his own team in the D-League, officials said on Friday.
According to a media statement by the PBA, Pacquiao's was one of 12 teams that signified their intention to take part in the coming D-League Aspirants Cup set to open on October 27.
Pacquiao's team will carry the banner of MP Hotel once it confirmed its partication in the PBA's developmental league by paying the tournament fee on or before September 1, the league added.
There is no official word yet on the composition of the team but sources said players currently trying out for spots in Kia who will not make the PBA lineup will instead play for MP Hotel in the D-League.
It also has yet to be established if Pacquiao, who has cast his name in the PBA rookie draft on August 24, will be in any way involved in the running of the D-League team.
Aside from the two leagues, the boxing champion is also set to field a team in the Countrywide Basketball League being spearheaded by former national Joe Lipa.
While getting ready for Kia's PBA debut in October, Pacquiao will also be preparing for his title defense against American Chris Algieri in Macau in November.
Also signifying intention to play in the D-League through a letter of intent are Café France, Boracay Rum, Cebuana Lhuillier, Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, Cagayan Valley, Jumbo Plastic, Lyceum, Racal Motorsales, San Sebastian College, Wangs Basketball, and AMA University.
