TALK ‘N Text will officially field a new import for the PBA Governors Cup in Rodney Carney on Wednesday after original choice Othyus Jeffers’ stint came to an abrupt end on Monday following an unexpected contract glitch.
Tropang Texters coach Norman Black confirmed Jeffers failed to get clearance from the NBA, although Minnesota already gave him the go-signal.
“The Timberwolves released him, but the NBA wants to hold on to his rights until June 30,” explained Black about the situation that left Talk `N Text without an import in its game against Alaska.
Jeffers, a co-MVP in the last NBA D-League, had a promising debut for Talk N Text last Wednesday when he registered 38 points, 13 boards, and two steals to lead the team to a 105-99 win over Meralco.
The Texters definitely missed Jeffers’ presence in their 91-103 loss to Alaska that evened their record at 1-1.
“We played with a bit of a disadvantage, not having an import,” said Black, a talented and multi-titled import himself during his prime years playing in the PBA. “But we did the best we could.”
