Orlando Johnson cleared to play in crucial Ginebra match against GlobalPort

    Jun 2, 2015

BARANGAY Ginebra import Orlando Johnson has been given the green light to play on Wednesday when the Gin Kings resume their last-ditch bid for a place in the playoffs of the PBA Governors Cup.

The 6-foot-4 standout from the University of California, Santa Barbara was discharged on Monday afternoon and has rejoined the Gin Kings’ practice on Tuesday at the CCF gym in Pasig City.

“Nagpahinga lang 'yun (Johnson). Nanigurado lang sa CT scan and everything, pero wala naman, negative,” Ginebra coach Frankie Lim told ahead of the Wednesday game against GlobalPort.

Ginebra players and coaching staff had feared the worst after Johnson fell head first wile driving hard to the basket in the first period of the team’s match against San Miguel Beer on Sunday night.

The 26-year-old former Indiana Pacers guard managed to play through dizzy spells, finishing  with a PBA career-low 22 points, 15 rebounds and six assists in 38 minutes before going straight to St. Luke’s Medical Center in Global City, Taguig.

The fiery Ginebra coach said hospital confinement gave Johnson the opportunity to recharge for the game against the Batang Pier on Wednesday.

“Well-rested naman na siya kasi mga two days din nagpahinga. Eh tinanong ko nga kanina kung nahihilo siya, di naman daw,” he added.

Ginebra, currently at 2-4, is now full strength with “Twin Towers” Greg Slaughter and Japeth Aguilar back from injuries.

Korean gunner Jiwan Kim is also coming in to replace Mongolian Sanchir Tungalag.
