BARANGAY Ginebra import Orlando Johnson was rushed to the St. Luke’s Medical Center at Bonifacio Global City following the loss to San Miguel Beer on Sunday night after complaining of severe dizziness.
Doctors are now performing a series of tests on the high-scoring guard, who fell hard on the floor head first during the first quarter of the Kings’ 85-100 loss to the Beermen at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“Masama talaga 'yung bagsak niya eh. Kita niyo naman siguro sa replay,” said Johnson’s Philippine agent Sheryl Reyes. “I was egging him to have a check-up na right after the incident kaso he decided to stay with the team. Never say die daw.”
Johnson was still in his Ginebra jersey when taken to the hospital, where he is being observed for a possible concussion. Team sources said he was already feeling dizzy during the game but decided to play on.
“Nahihilo talaga siya during the game. Concussion yung ino-observe namin. Throughout the game, nahihilo kasi talaga siya. Pinilit niya maglaro, matapang 'yung bata,” said a Ginebra source.
“Yung noo nya ang dinadaing niya eh. 'Yun daw ang nahampas. Nung halftime, nahihilo na eh, kaso gusto raw nya lumaro,” he added.
That Johnson did not vomit or suffered from severe headache is a good sign, Ginebra staffers said.
“Awa ng Diyos, hindi siya nagsusuka. At lalo nawawalan ng malay, kasi mas worse 'yung contusion,” he said. “But still we are hoping na walang linear fracture sa skull. Kasi hindi makakalaro ng matagal 'yun. So I hope Ginebra fans will pray harder.”
Ginebra stars Josh Urbiztondo and Sol Mercado have already tweeted requests for prayer for the safety of Johnson.
