OLU Ashaolu is set to replace Tony Mitchell as NLEX import for the remainder of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, head coach Yeng Guiao said after Tuesday’s practice.

Ashaolu showed up during Tuesday’s practice as Mitchell bid the team farewell before start of training. Ashaolu could play as early as Friday in NLEX’s match against Rain or Shine.

The 31-year-old Nigerian-Canadian will come in with the Road Warriors holding a 1-7 record in the Commissioner’s Cup.

Guiao said Ashaolu’s entry is part of NLEX’s early preparation for the Governors’ Cup although the Road Warriors head coach said they are still going for victories.

“We rather bring him early, acclimatize and make sure that he is in good shape,” Guiao said. “Puwede naman siya isabak na sa mga malalaking imort ng ibang teams this conference.”

Ashaolu already played for NLEX last year, but was saddled with injuries and was replaced by Aaron Fuller. Still, Ashaolu stayed in for the remainder of the season to support the team.
