TEAM doctors fear Ginebra star Mark Caguioa may have suffered an MCL (medial colateral ligament) sprain after twisting his knee during the first half of the team’s quarterfinal loss to Petron on Thursday night.

Caguioa, who was averaging 17.5 points per contest this conference, slipped from a wet spot on the court as he prepared to take a pass after emerging from a baseline cut with over eight minutes left in the second quarter.

He twisted his knee awkwardly and stayed on the floor for several minutes, a worried look on his face.

Barangay Ginebra team manager and current league chairman Robert Non later confirmed that team doctors fear the reigning league MVP may have hurt his MCL again - just months after recovering from a similar injury suffered in March.

A team insider revealed how team consultant Alfrancis Chua approached the reigning MVP to comfort him inside the dugout.

“Frustration was all over the room. Kung nakita mo lang yung scene at how coach Al was hugging the teary eyed Caguioa, maiiyak ka,” he said. “Hindi nga nagsasalita si Mark!”

The same source bared how Caguioa uttered the words: “Mas masakit ito kaysa last time. Kasi playoffs na.”

Caguioa later asked to delay his trip to the hospital to join his teammates in the second half of the game which the Gin Kings went on to lose, 94-101, to close out their season.

“Hindi na siya nagpahatid sa ospital. Bukas na lang daw. Kasi gusto niyang samahan ang teammates niya sa game,” said the source.
