CALVIN Oftana hopes to be back in TNT’s next game in the PBA Governors’ Cup as he recovers from a bruised hip he suffered against Magnolia.
The TNT forward was in uniform on Thursday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, but coach Chot Reyes decided to just rest him against Terrafirma, which the Tropang Giga won anyway, 107-89.
Oftana later admitted he’s yet fully recovered from the hip injury courtesy of Magnolia import Glenn Robinson III.
“Natuhod nung import ng Magnolia,” said the 28-year-old former NCAA MVP from San Beda, who’s case is day-to-day, according to coach Chot Reyes.
Oftana never returned again following the incident as the Tropang Giga grinded out an 88-82 win over the Hotshots.
The bruise would keep him away from practicing with TNT for several days.
“After nung game with Magnolia, five days akong hindi naka-ensayo dahil masakit siya,” said Oftana. “Ini-inda ko pa yung right hip ko.”
Oftana though, still attends the TNT practices and does his own personal training.
By Friday or Saturday, he hopes to finally rejoin the Tropang Giga.
“As of now, from 1-10, mga 3-4 na lang yung pain niya, so siguro in the next days, balik na ako ng ensayo,” he said.
“So hopefully, maging 1-2 na lang yung pain niya or if possible wala na, e di mas OK.”
Even without one of their top scoring options, the Tropang Giga still got past Terrafirma to finish their first round campaign in the group stage on a high note as they tied Meralco on top of Group A with a 4-1 record.
TNT returns in action on Sunday when it takes on Converge FiberXers. Hopefully, with Oftana finally in tow.
