OFFENSE was abundant for TNT KaTropa as it outdueled GlobalPort, 128-114, in an ill-tempered affair on Sunday night for a solid start to its PBA Commissioner’s Cup campaign.

With new recruit Terrence Romeo becoming another option, seven players scored in double figures for the Texters as they started strong and finished even better.

Jayson Castro provided a spark off the bench with a team-high 21 points and 10 assists while Romeo added 11 markers in his debut – and against his former team – in a game that saw tempers flare throughout.

“It’s nice the PBA is allowing this physicality, but if it gets to a point where players hurt each other, then we should question that,” TNT coach Nash Racela said.

After all, the game was marred by altercations between Jessie Saitanan and Malcolm White, Jeremy Tyler and Mo Tautuaa, and Joseph Gabayni and Roger Pogoy among others.

The Texters refused to be affected by the physicality as they were on target all-game long and made 43 of their 90 shots for a solid 47.8-percent shooting.

The Texters did squander an early 21-point lead, but regained their bearings in the payoff period where they caught fire again to outscore the Batang Pier, 45-33, not allowing their opponents to come closer than nine points.

Castro conspired with Roger Pogoy, who fired 11 of his 20 points in the final frame and finished with seven boards, three assists, and two steals.

Jericho Cruz added 16 points built around four triples, five boards, two assists, and one steal, while import Jeremy Tyler chipped in 14 markers, and 12 rebounds in just 26 minutes.

Don Trollano, another TNT recruit, was the other TNT player in twin-digit scoring with 11 points that came with six caroms, while Troy Rosario added eight points and eight rebounds in 31 minutes.

Sean Anthony led the Batang Pier with 34 points, 10 boards, five assists, and two steals in almost 39 minutes, but was held to just two points in the fourth quarter, while White added 27 points and 12 boards before fouling out after 30 minutes of play.
