MERALCO import Brian Butch gamely took full responsibility for the Bolts' 91-68 blowout loss at the hands of Talk N Text on Friday night in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
The usually reliable three-point shooting Butch was held to just 16 points after being shackled by the Tropang Texters’ armada of defenders.
He ended the game with woeful 6-of-21 shooting overall.
But the 6-foot-9 Butch offered no excuses, crediting instead the Tropang Texters' defense, which threw the Bolts out of their rhythm and made them bleed for every basket.
"They (Tropang Texters) did a great job of not making us do what we want to do, that's the reason for that score (of 68 points)," Butch told sports scribes after the game.
"Scoring 68 points in a game, that's 48 minutes. Probably we're not gonna win that game. That's the big, big reason why we lost."
Butch vowed to have a strong bounce-back game on Sunday when the Bolts play the Air21 Express in a critical match as both teams jockey for key playoffs positions.
"We're trying to get there. We'll put in the work, continue to improve, continue to get better," said the Appleton, Wisconsin native, whose team currently carries an even 2-2 record.
