IN honor of Robert “Sonny” Jaworski Sr. and in time for his jersey retirement ceremony, I came up with these statistical trivia about the the country's most popular basketball player.

    1) Jaworski played in 23 straight seasons in the PBA, the most by any player in the league. Among the active players, no one has played in more than 14.

    2) The Big J is one of only two players with at least 10,000 points, 5,000 rebounds and 5,000 assists in a career, the other being Ramon Fernandez. He finished his career with a league-best-total of 5,825 assists, 605 ahead of second-running Fernandez.

    3) He was the first player to make at least eight three-pointers in a game, achieving the feat in Game Two of the 1980 PBA Open Conference Finals between Toyota and UTex, which Jaworski's Corollas won 107-102.

    4) Jaworski had 30 appearances in a PBA finals and won nine championships as a player with Toyota and four as playing-coach of Ginebra.

    5) Jaworski holds the PBA record for all-time fewest playing time in a game when he played the final second of a Ginebra-Alaska game in the Reinforced Conference on September 20, 1992 just to do the inbound chores for the game's final possession. The Gin Kings lost the game 93-92.

    6) Though he coached Ginebra until the 1998 season, Big J played his very last PBA game on May 25, 1997 at the Cuneta Astrodome in Game Six of the All-Filipino Cup Finals against Purefoods, which Gordon’s Gin lost 82-73.

    7) Jaworski was exactly 51 years, 2 months and 17 days old when he played his last PBA game.
