ANTIPOLO CITY – NorthPort showed its firepower even without Stanley Pringle to trounce Alaska, 103-81, on Wednesday in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Ynares Center.
Sean Anthony had 22 points, while Robert Bolick chipped in 19 points as the Batang Pier won their first game of the conference with Pringle not playing in the game due to an injury.
Despite Pringle’s absence, the Batang Pier were guns ablaze as they led by as many as 24 points in the contest as they dealt the Aces their first defeat after winning their first game in the conference opener.
“We just played 48 minutes of good basketball,” said NorthPort coach Pido Jarencio. “Sabi ko nga sa kanila, since last year at last conference, hanggang third quarter lang kami. Pagdating ng fourth quarter, we are not executing, we are not playing defense.”
“Without Stanley Pringle, siguro na-challenge lahat ng players na kailangan they have to do their share. Hindi puwedeng sama sama lang. Kailangan tumulong ka sa team,” said Jarencio, whose team also played without Garvo Lanete and Bradwyn Guinto due to injuries.
Prince Ibeh added 19 points, 13 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks for the Batang Pier, who pulled away in the third quarter with Ryan Arana converting a three to give his team a 67-53 lead.
Chris Daniels had 21 points and 13 rebounds, as MJ Ayaay and Simon Enciso had 10 points each for the Aces in the loss.
