    NorthPort sustains fiery start to season by turning back NLEX

    NORTHPORT sustained its fiery start to the season by beating NLEX, 95-90, on Sunday in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

    Anthony was all over the court as he compiled 22 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and seven steals in a fitting follow-up to the opening victory over Blackwater last Wednesday.

    “Malayo pa pero kahit papaano, isang NLEX team, matibay-tibay na team, tinalo natin. It’s a morale-booster for us,” said NorthPort coach Pido Jarencio.

    Mo Tautuaa had 18 points and 11 rebounds while rookie Robert Bolick was again a factor as he finished with 14 points in his second game in the league.

    Stanley Pringle scored 11 points including the first four of the fourth quarter as the Batang Pier turned the tables on NLEX, 79-73, after trailing, 71-70, at the end of the third quarter.

    The closest NLEX got was at 86-85, but Bolick and Paolo Taha hit crucial baskets while Anthony made crucial stops to close out the game for NorthPort.

    Poy Erram scored 19 points while JR Quinahan had 18 points as the Road Warriors fell to 0-2 to start the conference.

    NorthPort 95 – Anthony 22, Tautuaa 18, Bolick 14, Pringle 11, Taha 9, Elorde 8, Arana 4, Guinto 3, Grey 2, Flores 2, Lanete 2, Sollano 0, Gabayni 0.

    NLEX 90 – Erram 19, Quinahan 18, Galanza 11, Paniamogan 10, Magat 8, Tallo 7, Fonacier 5, Baguio 4, Alas 2, Porter 2, Soyud 2, Ighalo 2, Rios 0, Taulava 0.

    Quarters: 25-22; 48-46; 71-70; 95-90.
