THE most impressive player in the PBA this season faces a long layoff.
Sources bared rising star Robert Bolick has suffered an ACL tear, putting a cruel end to an impressive rookie season that saw him stand out for NorthPort in the PBA and with Gilas Pilipinas in the Fiba World Cup in China.
The former San Beda star limped out of NorthPort's game against San Miguel last week after his knee buckled while taking off for a drive early in the final quarter.
Although Bolick braved the pain, NorthPort staff and players appeared to sense something terrible had happened as coach Pido Jarencio immediately put an arm around his prized rookie.
The hard-nosed guard was taken to St. Luke's Medical Center at BGC after the game and team insiders said he sought a second opinion on the injury.
Over the weekend, NorthPort team owner Mikee Romero posted on his official Facebook page that Bolick is set to undergo surgery and faces a long layoff.
NorthPort and Bolick are set to make an announcement on the medical findings and the next course of action.
The injury comes a major blow for Bolick, who has distinguished himself as the favorite for the Rookie of the Year award.
He was also the most consistent player of Yeng Guiao in the Gilas team that competed against the world's top teams at the World Cup.
