NORTHPORT will parade a different import in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup in Kadeem Jack, a veteran of the G. League.
The Batang Pier made the last-minute move as original choice Kavell Bigby Williams opted to take an offer of trying out with the Northeast Tigers in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).
The 6-foot-11 Williams was a former member of the Great Britain men’s national team and cousin of former heavyweight champion and boxing great Lenox Lewis.
Jack, an American and Trinidadian, played for Rutgers in college and suited up for a number of G. League teams such as Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Reno Bighorns, Sioux Falls Skyforce, South Bay Lakers, and Oklahoma City Blue after being undrafted in the 2015 NBA draft.
He also had stints in Taiwan, Puerto Rico, Lithuania, and just recently in UAE with Al Wahda,
Meanwhile, NLEX is also bringing in a new import just as the league’s second conference fires off on Wednesday at the Philsports Arena.
The Road Warriors tapped Mike Watkins in lieu of NBA veteran Ed Davis, who backed out due to a personal family matter.
Road Warriors team manager Virgil Villavicencio confirmed the arrival of Watkins last Saturday and then practiced with the squad the following day.
Watkins stands at 6-foot-9 and was a product of Penn State.
At 29, he previously played in the G. League with Delaware Blue Coats, and saw action in leagues in Colombia, Israel, and Venezuela.
