NORTHPORT is about to acquire another player from Barangay Ginebra once a trade involving Jamie Malonzo is approved by the league. According to sources, Malonzo will be shipped to the Gin Kings for Arvin Tolentino, Prince Caperal, Kent Salado and two future draft picks.
The Batang Pier, according to sources that SPIN.ph talked to, are set to send the two draft picks to San Miguel for Von Pessumal, who they will then ship to Ginebra in exchange for veteran shooter Jeff Chan.
Those deals add four more to a long list of players from Ginebra that eventually ended up at NorthPort. Here are some of them:
Kevin Ferrer, Sol Mercado, Jervy Cruz
Drafted in the second round by Barangay Ginebra in 2016, Ferrer played for three years with the Kings winning two championships before being traded to NorthPort as part of the Stanley Pringle trade.
Sol Mercado was also part of the trade after playing for four years with Ginebra where he became one of the vital pieces in their championship teams as a defender and a veteran presence of the Kings.
Cruz also had a lengthy stay with Ginebra when he was traded to NorthPort after four years.
Taha was acquired by Ginebra in 2016, but went back to the same team that drafted him two years later for Julian Sargent.
The former Letran standout was drafted by Ginebra in 2019, but his stint with the team was short-lived as he was traded to NorthPort in exchange for the 13th pick in the Season 46 draft that eventually became Brian Enriquez.
Picked up by Ginebra in the free agent market last year after left unsigned by Alaska in 2021, Ayaay was shipped to NorthPort for two future draft selections.
Arth Dela Cruz
After a three-year stint with Ginebra that was hounded with injuries, Dela Cruz was moved to NorthPort in 2021 in exchange for Sidney Onwubere. The former San Beda cager won two championships with Ginebra before the deal.
Another megadeal that Ginebra and NorthPort executed was the deal involving Slaughter. Last March of 2021, the Gin Kings gave up Slaughter to the Batang Pier, swapping him with another big man in Christian Standhardinger, who a few conferences ago was fresh from a Best Player of the Conference award. Slaughter, however, had a falling out with NorthPort and eventually left for Rizing Zephyr Fukuoka in the Japan B.League.
