NORTHPORT benefited from a late goal-tending call to escape with a 110-108 win over a fighting Columbian side on Wednesday in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Robert Bolick missed a lay-up with 2.8 seconds left but the referees ruled the basket should count after a video review, saying Columbian import Lester Prosper hit the rim while challenging Bolick's shot.
Eric Camson missed a jumper in the game’s final possession, enabling NorthPort to come away with its eighth win in 10 games to move closer to securing a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.
The Dyip fell to 2-7.
Mo Tautuaa scored 23 points to go with five rebounds, and six assists while Bolick finished with 21 points including the marginal basket for the in-form Batang Pier, who played without injured Sean Anthony and Paolo Taha.
Kevin Ferrer hit 21 points while going 4-of-8 from three-point distance for NorthPort while Nico Elorde added 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals in his first game back from an injury layoff.
“Medyo nag-struggle kami kasi wala si Sean, Paolo Taha. Mabigat ‘yung wala si Sean Anthony," said NorthPort coach Pido Jarencio. "Let’s give credit to the Columbian team. Talagang breaks of the game lang ang nangyari at nanalo tayo."
Columbian held a 99-95 but Elorde hit back-to-back threes to make it a 108-103 game. A five-point swing capped by CJ Perez's tip-in tied the game at 108-108 with 8.1 seconds left.
Prosper led the way with 36 points and 17 rebounds while Perez had 29 points and 12 rebounds for the hard-luck Dyip.
