MERALCO coach Norman Black declined to make a direct comment and instead left everyone to be the judge on the questionable non-call on the contact between Baser Amer and JVee Casio in a crucial play late in the Bolts’ 81-79 loss to Alaska in the PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday night.

With one minute and 14 seconds left, Amer reached out for an offensive rebound when he and JVee Casio collided in mid-air, pushing the young Meralco guard out of bounds.

The non-call led to the Aces getting possession and Vic Manuel scoring on a stab that pulled them within two points, 75-77, eventually taking the lead.

“You have to ask the commissioner about that,” Black said after the game. “The last time I said something was obvious; it wasn't obvious.”

“You saw it. I'll leave it at that,” he was quick to add.

The last time Black vehemently protested a call was during the last Governors Cup Finals against Ginebra where he was certain Sol Mercado escaped with a traveling call late in Game Five against Meralco.

The league technical staff stood its ground, insisting Mercado didn't travel.

On Wednesday, Black appeared more disappointed about his team squandering a sizeable lead late in the game than the questionable call.

“If you're up by nine with four minutes to go, you should win the basketball game, but we missed a lot of foul shots tonight and didn't make the plays when we needed it,” Black said.

“Alaska made their three-point shots in the end to win the game, so we just got to go back in practice and get better.”
