ANTIPOLO - Meralco head coach Norman Black was left red-faced as his squad suffered a 92-90 loss to an All-Filipino TNT side in the PBA Governors' Cup on Sunday.
Black, one of the greatest imports to ever play in the league, knows the importance of having a reinforcement in conferences like this one and that’s why he was really frustrated that they can’t take advantage of it.
“I am a little embarrassed with the outcome. Playing a team without an import, it’s a game that we should have won. Honestly it’s a little embarrassing,” said Black after the match.
What catches Black’s ire is that they’re supposedly playing with reigning back-to-back import in Allen Durham, but even the hulking reinforcement can’t save his squad, despite posting monster numbers of 27 points and 22 rebounds.
“That should have been our advantage. That should have been their problem, playing without an import. Considering that we have the best import, we should have beaten them,” Black said.
“Credit to Talk ‘N Text cause they really played well, but facing a team without an import, it’s a game we should have won.”
Asked what went wrong, Black didn’t hold back – saying that there really isn’t a positive takeaway with the defeat.
“I’ll just have to watch the tape first. But I really thought everything went wrong. We lacked the energy on both end. I felt like some guys didn’t show up to play but that’s just my point of view from where I stand.”
