BEAU Belga’s injury came at the worst possible time for Rain or Shine as he’s done for the season with plantar fasciitis on his left foot.
Belga’s injury came with the Elasto Painters are on the ropes in the PBA Governors Cup and coping with the disappearance of star big man Raymond Almazan.
“Kaya nga e, kung kailan wala si Raymond, kailangan ka ng team na-injury pa,” rued Belga following the Elasto Painters’ 91-82 loss to the Meralco Bolts on Sunday.
“Wala kang magagawa e. Di mo naman inaasahan yung injury at that time, so no regret at all,” he added.
If there’s any consolation for the Elasto Painters, it’s seeing reserve big man Norbert Torres step up in the absence of Belga and Almazan.
The former La Salle standout came up with his best game of the season, scoring 16 points on 4-of-5 shooting from threes in 19 minutes off the bench.
For Belga, that’s exactly what they need right now.
“Kailangan namin ng mga player na mag-step up sa absence ng iba. Nasa pwesto kami na pwede kaming ma-eliminate, everybody needs to step up,” said Belga.
Torres said that he’s just doing whatever he can to fill the void left by the Elasto Painters’ frontcourt pair.
“Just stepping out cause Beau maybe out for the next few games or maybe even the conference, so I have that sense of urgency to step up,” said Torres.
“Just one practice everyday. Just trying to get better everyday. Just wait for the opportunity and when the opportunity comes we just need to step up.”
