CHICAGO — If you think car racing is the fastest event in all of sports, wait ‘til you see Rain or Shine play.

The Elasto Painters have zoomed to the top of the ongoing PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup standings with a 7-0 record.

And they’ve done so through an offense that runs at breakneck speed while showing no regard for the safety of others.

Rain or Shine is No. 1 in the conference in points scored per game at 121.4.

COMMUNITY PLAY.

With import Jaylen Johnson leading the charge at 26.5 points per. plus 15.7 and 11.2, respectively, from Adrian Nocum and Felix Lemetti, RoS wields a balanced attack.

Which is why coach Yeng Guiao isn’t worried about hitting a wall.

“There”s really not too much difference in our rotation. I just try to squeeze in some minutes fo our rookies to build their confidence and give them a feel for the game.

“I feel confident we can sustain our pace without any restrictions on the minutes of key personnel,” Guiao told me on Monday night.

In other words, there won’t be any load management for a squad that has a deep player-rotation but with no one playing over 35 minutes a contest.

KEEPING THE PACE.

While the game tends to “slow down and become more deliberate” in the playoffs, Guiao said “our objective is to resist this trend.”

As other teams jockey for a postseason ride, RoS has a golden chance to seize the top seed, but “that’s not necessarily our priority,” Guiao said.

“We want to keep winning as long as we can but nine wins assures us of a twice-to-beat advantage."

After colliding with Terrafirma import Ali Mubashar last Wednesday, Lemetti has left knee soreness and won’t play versus Phoenix on Tuesday.

Staying healthy is the main concern for the Elasto Painters right now.

And if they’re injury-free, they can give the mighty teams a hell of a playoffs fight.
