THE PBA has no plan to hold a Gilas draft this season, pending talks with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (PBA).
The Season 48 Rookie Draft is scheduled on September 17, but PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said that, as of now, there is no proposal to hold a separate draft for players that will be loaned to Gilas Pilipinas.

“As of now, alam ko wala na ‘yung Gilas draft,” said Marcial. “Pero depende rin sa pag-uusapan din namin ni coach Chot (Reyes). Pero as of now, wala pong Gilas draft.”
Under a special arrangement between the SBP and the PBA, players that were selected in the Gilas draft were placed on the national pool, but their rights in the pro league were owned by the team that drafted them.
The most recent Gilas draft was held in 2021 with Jordan Heading (Terrafirma), William Navarro (NorthPort), Tzaddy Rangel (NLEX), and Jaydee Tungcab (TNT) selected.
All players, except for Heading who headed to Chinese Taipei and later Japan, have already played in the PBA after being released by Gilas.
