NLEX is considering trading away its draft pick in order to obtain a quality big man following a PBA season that saw injuries and a suspension knock the wind out of the Road Warriors' sails.

NLEX coach Yeng Guiao said he is considering a major revamp in the team and is open to the possibility of trading the team's first-round pick if he can get a big man in return.

Guiao said he sees the coming draft class as guard-heavy, which is why he is considering a trade for the draft pick as NLEX is about to have Kiefer Ravena and Kevin Alas back next season.

“Maybe there could be two good rounds in this rookie draft but there are no big men. Karamihan guwardiya. And with Kiefer and Kevin coming back, baka maging redundant din ‘yung mga guwardiya na ‘yan.

“We are looking at trading our pick if we can have a quality big man in exchange. ‘Yun ‘yung mga napapag-uusapan,” Guiao said.

Guiao didn’t specify a big man they are interested in.

“Hindi mo ma-project kung sino, kasi gusto ko kunin si June Mar (Fajardo), hindi naman siya ibibigay. Gusto ko si Greg (Slaughter), hindi naman siya ibibigay. You can only look at the big men who you have a chance or whom other teams are willing to trade for.

“Ang problema mo, if you are trading, you have to trade for equal value. The value we can offer for a quality big man is our draft pick,” said Guiao.

Aside from trading away their draft pick, Guiao is also looking at a change in personnel particularly on their expiring players.

Guiao said he is considering a revamp especially following NLEX’s quarterfinal loss to Ginebra in which the Road Warriors lost by a huge margin, 111-75.

“We are bracing for a major revamp. We are reconsidering some decisions that we already made before na may mga players sana mare-renew or mare-resign. But now, I’m having second thoughts. Sabi ko nga, sa eight hanggang nine na players na ‘yun, some of them, we have decided to re-sign before this game.

“But now, I’m having second thoughts. We will see what happens kung mag-iiba pa ‘yung isip ko. I was just meeting the coaches right after the game and they seem to agree with my assessment that we have to review those players who we’ve decided to re-sign if we really want to re-sign them,” said Guiao.
