IT may not be an order, but it still came from the big boss.
San Miguel Corp. president Ramon S. Ang usually plays down his PBA teams’ achievements, but he didn’t hide his desire for San Miguel Beer to win a Grand Slam this season.
The Beermen are fresh from a historic Philippine Cup conquest at the expense of Magnolia in the finals, marking the start of another ambitious quest for a hat-trick of championships they first achieved in 1989 with a team led by Mon Fernandez, Hec Calma and Allan Caidic and coached by Norman Black.
Ang is now hoping to see the Beermen repeat the rare feat.
“Pinagdadasal po natin na sana manalo ho tayo ng…Grand Slam,” Ang said, gesturing a No. 3 sign with his fingers as he graced the SMB victory party on Tuesday night. “Yun naman po ay pinagdadasal.”
SMB’s aspirations are anchored on the addition of this season’s top pick Christian Standhardinger as well as the arrival of import Troy Gillenwater.
Ang is first letting his team get a much-deserved vacation, before returning to the grind for the midseason tournament.
