JORDAN Sta. Ana’s path to becoming a better version of himself led him to the PBA D-League, where he currently suits up for Che’Lu Bar and Grill this 2018 Foundation Cup.

“Gusto ko lang mag-focus sa sarili ko para makapaglaro dito sa D-League at magkaroon ng kumpyansa,” he said.

Playing a little over 16 minutes per game, Sta. Ana has been averaging 4.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists for the Revellers as he continues to build himself up after leaving the confines of University of Santo Tomas.

But the 20-year-old clarified that he holds no grudges against his former school even after abruptly ending his career as a Growling Tiger.

"Walang samaan ng loob. Nagpaalam naman ako ng maayos kila coach (Aldin Ayo) at pumayag naman sila,” he said.

Though he initially thought of taking his act to the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL), his former teammate Kent Lao gave him the idea to test his mettle in the PBA D-League instead.

It's proving to be a good move.

At Che’Lu, Sta. Ana has enjoyed learning under the tutelage of veterans like Jeff Viernes and he's absorbing valuable lessons like a sponge.

"Malaking bagay para sa akin na makapaglaro dito sa D-League dahil yung mga kuya ko, tinatama nila yung mga mali ko,” he said.

Even coach Stevenson Tiu is happy with what he’s seeing from Sta. Ana so far.

“It’s good knowing first time niya maglaro sa D-League, ok na siya,” he said.

However, just like any coach, Tiu wants Sta. Ana to develop into a more well-rounded playmaker.

“He needs to improve his confidence and leadership kasi here, he's playing as a guard so kailangan yung leadership niya nasa loob. Kailangan niya ma-control yung flow ng game which I am expecting from him,” he said.

Sta. Ana is making the most of his one-year residency before reuniting with Jeff Napa, his old coach at Nazareth School of National University, once he continues his collegiate career at Letran next year.
