MANNY V. Pangilinan implied there is no favoritism among his three teams in the PBA as he’s simply proud that all of them have advanced to the playoffs of the PBA Governors’ Cup.
Asked if he can consider Meralco as the new flagship team of his conglomerate after the Bolts finished atop the standings for the first time in franchise history, MVP insisted that he doesn’t consider any team – not even TNT KaTropa as the flag bearer of the group.
“I don’t have to label any one of the three as a flagship,” Pangilinan said after the Bolts’ stunning 104-101 win over San Miguel Beer on Sunday night.
“I mean, all three teams have done well this conference, to their credit,” he added. “We’re just a bystander, ‘di ba?”
Indeed, Pangilinan is enjoying his view from the stands as the Bolts, Texters, and NLEX are all still in contention, hoping for a deep postseason run.
Pangilinan likes the chances of winning a championship better than last conference when only two teams that made it to the playoffs, including one that reached the finals in TNT. NLEX wound up tied for last place in the miseason tournament.
“Yes, as compared, say, to the second conference,” the amiable sports patron said. “We have two in the Top Four and then NLEX is number five.”
