NLEX just renewed its partnership with its three reliable big men in JR Quinahan, Mike Miranda, and Raul Soyud.
The three formalized their new contracts with the Road Warriors on Wednesday, ensuring their return to the franchise for the PBA’s 46th season.
Terms of the deals, however, were not divulged by NLEX management.
Only Soyud and Quinahan were present during the contract signing made in the presence of NLEX Corp. Assistant Vice President Ronald Dulatre and marquee agent Danny Espiritu.
Quinahan, 36, is in his fifth season with the franchise which acquired him from NorthPort in a four-team trade in 2017. He emerged as the second leading scorer of the team in the Philippine Cup bubble, averaging 13.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists.
Miranda meanwhile, was a steady presence in the middle for the Road Warriors, submitting numbers of 6.7 points and 4.3 rebounds.
But it was Soyud who proved to be a revelation for the team during the all-Filipino conference. The 6-foot-5 big man averaged 10.0 points and 6,8 rebounds, numbers that were impressive enough to earn for him a nomination in the league's Most Improved Player award.
NLEX coach Yeng Guiao referred to Soyud as another product of 'my temper and my mouth.'
“I think he is one example of a player who was really relegated to the end of the bench but worked his a** off to play the playing time that he gets. Actually, tanungin mo mga players, I’ve been harsh on Raul in practices. I demanded a lot from Raul kasi gusto ko, ma-elevate pa niya laro niya," said Guiao of Soyud. who is ironically, being mentored by Quinahan himself.
Quinahan, Miranda, and Soyud now join the trio of Jericho Cruz, Kevin Alas, and Kiefer Ravena among the players signed by the Road Warriors for the coming season of the PBA.
