NLEX'S preparation for the coming PBA 43rd season won't be held back despite the ongoing leadership impasse in the league.

Coach Yeng Guiao said the Road Warriors have been training for more than a month now with the view that the pro league will open the season with the Philippine Cup on Dec. 17 as scheduled.

"We're preparing the team for the Dec. 17 opening, which means if we follow that schedule, we will have a game on Dec. 20 and 25," said Guiao during the formal launch of the team and its new logo on Monday night at the NLEX headquarters in Balintawak.

"Yung time table namin, yung preparation is based on that schedule," he added. "We're not anticipating any postponement or any delays. I'm not really concerned about the opening."

With less than a week before the new season kicks off, the league remains divided on whether Chito Narvasa stays on as commissioner. Seven ballclubs led by the MVP faction had been vocal about losing their confidence on the commissioner's leadership, while those from the San Miguel Group and two others are one in supporting the continued tenure of the former banker and one-time PBA coach.

The uncertainty of the situation has obviously left an impression about the possible postponement of the new season's opening week.

But Guiao made it clear the Road Warriors are not letting the skepticism affect the team's preparation.

"We just try to focus on what we can do and not about the uncertainties and controversies," said the champion mentor. "Wala ka namang magagawa doon. It's just a distraction if you give it a thought. But if you don't give it a thought, I don't think it will affect you."

And while he may always look confrontational inside the court, Guiao is all for finding a diplomatic solution to the issue, which he believes, the respected and honorable leaders of the league are capable of doing.

"I'm actually optimistic that our PBA leaders are going to find a solution in time," said the former Pampanga vice governor and congressman.

"I'm basing my optimism on the fact that at the end of the day, I thought reason will triumph over personal interest."
