CEBU CITY - The NLEX Road Warriors blasted the Cebu Landmasters, 99-72, to get their first win in the Recoletos Invitational Cup on Wednesday night at the University of San Jose-Recoletos Coliseum.
The easy victory however, came with a price as the Road Warriors lost guard Emman Monfort to an ankle injury early in the match.
Monfort twisted his left ankle during a rebound scramble in the first quarter and staff said he will likely be sidelined for the rest of the pocket tournament.
Monfort’s loss, was hardly felt by the team of new head coach Yeng Guiao as the Road Warriors dominated the Cebuano young guns, thanks to a relentless attack that saw six players score in double figures.
Bullstrong forward Bradwyn Guinto, recently acquired from Mahindra, led the way with 13 points while Garvo Lanete, Sean Anthony and Jonas Villanueva each had 12.
Raul Soyud finished with 11 while Carlo Lastimosa chipped in 10.
The Road Warriors will next face the defending Cesafi champions University of the Visayas on Thursday evening before taking on sister team Meralco on Friday.
The Landmasters, a team powered by the core of the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars, got 17 from Miguel Gastador and 15 from RJ Dinolan.
