NLEX gets additional firepower as it tries to enhance its quarterfinals bid in the PBA Governors’ Cup.
The Road Warriors activated rookie Xyrus Torres in time for their crucial contest against Phoenix on Friday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Torres replaces veteran big man Jake Pascual on the active roster, with the 35-year-old forward relegated to the Unrestricted Free Agent List With Rights to Salary (UFAWR2RS).

A sharpshooter out of Far Eastern University, Torres was a third round pick of NLEX (No. 30 overall) in the last Season 49 draft.
He previously played for the Quezon Huskers in the MPBL, but has since gotten the release from his mother team and from the league itself.
“May release papers na siya from his mother team. And yung mother team niya, sumulat na rin sa MPBL about his release,” said an NLEX insider.
The 6-foot-1 guard out of Pampanga was also once part of the Gilas Pilipinas Youth team and briefly suited up for the TNT Triple Giga in the PBA 3x3.
Torres is the second rookie to be activated by the Road Warriors this conference after first round pick Jonnel Policarpio.
NLEX welcomes all the help it could get
His entry at NLEX comes at a time when the team is fighting for dear life to remain in contention for a playoff berth.
The Road Warriors are currently tied with the Blackwater Bossing for the fourth and last quarterfinals slot out of Pool B, with similar 3-5 records.
After the Fuel Masters, NLEX caps its group stage schedule with a big game against Barangay Ginebra on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
