NLEX has continued to revamp its roster as it has acquired rising star Alex Mallari in a trade with Mahindra.

The Road Warriors gave up young frontliners Glenn Khobuntin and Eric Camson in exchange for Mallari as well as Kenneth Ighalo and a 2020 second-round pick.

Media bureau chief Willie Marcial confirmed the approval of the trade on Friday.

It is the third movement in the NLEX roster in this Commissioner’s Cup after acquiring Rabeh Al-Hussaini in a trade with Meralco, and Juami Tiongson from the free agent market.

The Road Warriors are now getting an emerging star in Mallari, who has flourished for the Floodbuster under coach Chris Gavina, averaging 17.8 points, 7.1 boards, 4.9 assists, and 1.7 steals in 34.5 minutes in the last Philippine Cup, arguably the best player to miss out on an All-Star spot this year.

The 30-year-old point forward, however, has been called out by Gavina twice in the ongoing Commissioner’s Cup regarding his maturity and leadership as his numbers have gone down to 12 points, 5.3 boards, 3.4 assists, and 0.9 steal in 27.7 minutes in seven games this conference.

The Road Warriors, though, are taking a chance on Mallari in the hope of finally barging into the win column after eight straight losses to start the conference – and 11 straight dating back to last conference.

In exchange, the Road Warriors are letting go of two young, bruising players in the 25-year-old Khobuntin and the 26-year-old Camson who have flourished under Guiao this season.
