PUREFOODS physiotherapists Nick Ocampo and Arcee Cua are working double time on injuries to Marqus Blakely and shooting guard Peter June Simon ahead of the game against Alaska on Tuesday in an early collision between two PBA Commissioner’s Cup heavyweights.
Ocampo said Blakely skipped undergoing an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan on Saturday, opting instead to take anti-inflammatory medicine and rest the shoulder which got dislocated in a loose ball scramble during Purefoods' 83-70 win over GlobalPort on Friday.
“Marqus is better now, inaayos lang namin the past days kasi tight masyado ngayon yung left shoulder niya. Nilalagyan lang siya ng kinesio tape ni Arcee but he hasn’t practice since yesterday (Sunday) but just doing some shootaround,” Ocampo told Spin.ph before the team’s practice on Monday.
The good news is, there is no swelling in the 6-foot-4 Blakely’s left shoulder which he popped back into place during the first half.
“We’re just trying to preserve him for the game against Alaska since masakit nga daw shoulder niya. Now we’re just doing some strengthening sa left shoulder niya para di rin manghina,” added Ocampo.
On the other hand, the six-foot Simon is in line to suit up after missing Purefoods' conference opener due to bck spasm, likely in an off-the-bench role for the game against Alaska.
Simon rejoined the team in practice on Sunday.
“PJ’s improving definitely. He’s done some shooting. Ngayon, depende na lang iyan sa practice (on Monday), but again, he's just cautious kaya we’re just resting him as much as we can,” said Ocampo.
