BIÑAN, Laguna — Projected as simply a temporary plug to Purefoods’ hole in the middle, Yousef Taha has managed to seal his place with surprisingly solid play.

The Purefoods big man said it is just right for him to step up with the playoffs drawing near especially with the absence of Ian Sangalang due to an ACL injury and Mark Pingris just starting to get back in the groove following an injury during his Gilas Pilipinas stint this year.

“When Ping came back and Ian went down, we had a few players getting opportunities. I guess it’s just the timing. It’s getting close to the playoffs. We are stepping on the gas for the final push,” said Taha.

Taha played one of his best games in his PBA career on Sunday against Meralco when he poured in 14 points to go with nine rebounds on Sunday at the Alonte Sports Arena here. The former Mapua Cardinal also came up big late in the game, hitting eight points in the fourth in the 79-77 win.

Purefoods star James Yap is happy all the other players of the Hotshots are contributing well at the right time.

“Lahat naman gusto mag-step up. Nakatulong sa amin si Yousef. Sana mag-tuluy-tuloy,” Yap said.

Taha said he will try to continue contributing any way he can for Purefoods coach Tim Cone and the rest of the Hotshots.

“I was well prepared for the game and with everything coach wanted. I always had it in me. Whatever the coach tells me, I’ll do it,” said Taha.
