Kung ikaw ang manager, bakit ilalagay mo sa ganung sitwasyon ang alaga mo,” says Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao, training his guns at the player's longtime adviser and agent, Lawrence Chongson. Jerome Ascano

ASIDE from his famous championship stories and infamous oncourt tantrums, Yeng Guiao is also known for letting go of players who he thinks no longer have the heart to play for him.

“Kung ayaw sa amin ng player, madali naming gawan ng paraan para malipat siya sa iba,” has been the Rain or Shine coach's mantra when it comes to contract negotiations since his early days in the PBA.

But in the case of Paul Lee, Guiao isn't giving him up without a fight, even if the former Rookie of the Year awardee has conveyed to him his wish to be traded in an overseas call from Spain.

“Naniniwala ako na bagama’t sinasabi ni Paul 'yun (na ayaw na niya sa amin), pupuwede pa ring mag-iba ang isip nya,” said Guiao, while dropping hints of some details of his overseas phone conversation with Lee last Saturday.

Guiao then trained his guns at Lawrence Chongson, Lee's former coach at University of the East and now his adviser and agent who the Rain or Shine coach said is the one complicating matters for team and player.

For someone who is Lee's friend and adviser, Guiao said Chongson shouldn't have allowed the Gilas Pilipinas star to get into this situation where his image and reputation can be tarnished.

Guiao said he doesn't believe that it was Lee who wants to leave Rain or Shine.

Guiao wasn't finished.

“Wala kaming pinagkagalitan, wala kaming masamang pinagsamahan sa team, naka-maximum na siya, naging Rookie of the Year sa Rain or Shine, naging champion siya, na-injure siya, inalagaan siya, naging national team player siya, ginawa siyang mukha ng Rain or Shine, binigyan siya ng maximum salary ng Rain or Shine tapos biglang bigla … wala kang ma-explain na dahilan, sasabihin mo magpapa-trade ka?”

“Anong image magkakaroon ang bata?”
