AFTER getting the better of Barako Bull import Solomon Alabi, Rain or Shine’s Wayne Chism now braces for a bigger challenge ahead of him – 7-foot-3 Peter John Ramos of KIA Motors.

Chism fired a game-high 32 points as he displayed his three-point shooting repertoire in leading the Elasto Painters’ to a 103-91 whipping of Barako Bull on Friday night in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

The 6-foot-8 Chism finished the game with seven three-pointers as he used his quickness and ability to shoot from long range in outduelling the 7-foot-1 Alabi.

But he expects things to be different when he goes up against Ramos on March 22, referring to the showdown with the Puerto Rican as ‘one crazy matchup.’

“That’s gonna be a crazy match up. He’s (Ramos) big and I have watched him play,” noted the soft-spoken Chism, who just came over last week to replace Rick Jackson.

“He’s a great player. And they (Carnival) ain’t bringing him here for nothing. But I just can’t wait to play against him.”

Ramos has been a huge factor for KIA’s resurgence in the mid-season conference, averaging 32.0 points and 20.0 rebounds to help the Carnival improved to a 3-4 record.

KIA has beaten three legitimate title contenders in new Philippine Cup champion San Miguel (88-78), defending champion Purefoods (95-84), and just last Wednesday, Talk ‘N Text (106-103).

Chism said playing against Alabi – and against bigger imports - reminded him a lot of about a 7-foot-5 big man he played against during his college days at Tennessee.

“It was fun because it reminded me of playing against another guy who was 7-foot-5 back in college, though tonight, I worked hard to change my game and play both in and out,” said Chism, who earned Best Player of the game honors.

“The release of my shots felt great so I kept shooting.”
