WITH GlobalPort's ace shelved, the other cards on the Batang Pier deck showed up as the team cruised to a 105-86 win over Mahindra in the PBA Commissioner's Cup on Sunday.

Top scorer Terrence Romeo sat out due to a bum stomach, but six other Batang Pier players finished in double figures, with Stanley Pringle topscoring for GlobalPort with 24 points and import Malcolm White adding 16 markers and 17 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Von Pessumal, Mike Cortez, JR Quinahan, and Aron Aban combined for 47 points.

Winning with a huge margin even without their top gun was a good sign for the team, according to Pessumal.

"He’s our number one option so when he comes back, I think mas magiging deadly pa if we can contribute na nandoon pa sya sa court," he said.

"Pag alis nya, he just needs to rest and recover so when he comes back, mas fresh sya. Malaking bagay ang contributions namin."

GlobalPort improved to a 2-5 card with Sunday's victory, and Pessumal is hoping they will be able to keep it going.

"We just have to play together more and understand na if we want to make it to the playoffs, kailangan talagang team kami. We’re getting there slowly. Konti na lang. Hopefully this will be a springboard for us to the playoffs," he said.
