BI√ĎAN - TNT Katropa validated its status as the best team at this juncture of the PBA Governors' Cup as it gave Barangay Ginebra a reality check with a 104-92 decision on Sunday night at the Alonte Sports Arena.

The Texters broke down the Gin Kings defense with offensive precision to establish a sizeable lead that was enough to withstand a late rally.

Mychal Ammons sparked the Texters with his energy and hustle as they finished the eliminations on top after winning all but one of their 11 games.

"Both teams came out to win today," Texters coach Jong Uichico said. "We just played a little bit better."

As the top seed, TNT will face the survivor of the Rain or Shine-Phoenix playoff for the last spot on Wednesday.

Ginebra dropped to third seed and will face Alaska in the next round while San Miguel Beer moved up to second seed to arrange a quarterfinal meeting with NLEX.

Ammons registered 24 points and 16 boards, while Jayson Castro, and Mike Madanly, Larry Fonacier delivered the biggest baskets at crunchtime for the Texters.

Justin Brownlee scattered 16 of his 34 points in the payoff period as the Gin Kings import tried to carry his team on his back.

The Gin Kings came to within 10 points after going down by 22 early in the fourth, but Castro ended the fightback with a big three-pointer on the other end.
