TALK ‘N Text appeared to give Blackwater false hopes of causing an upset, pulling away in the second half to score a 109-98 spanking in the Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

The Tropang Texters tightened their defensive screws in the second half where they turned a close battle into a rout on the way to a fourth win in six games.

Jayson Castro showed the way as usual with 26 points, while rookies Troy Rosario and Mo Tautuaa continued to provide a spark with 17 and 16 markers, respectively, for the Texters, who dealt the Elite a fifth loss in six games.

“I think we played better defense in the second half,” said Texters coach Jong Uichico, whose team held the Elite to 43-percent shooting overall. “(Their final score was) not indicative of our defense the entire game.”

The Elite still led, 61-56, early in the third, but the Texters embarked on run that saw them score 16 unanswered points, capped by two free throws by Matt Ganuelas-Rosser, that suddenly gave them a double-digit lead.

Castro sparked the runaway in the payoff period where “The Blur” scattered nine of his total output, including a three-pointer that gave the Texters their biggest lead at 19, 91-72.

Poy Erram put up another solid outing, conspiring with Carlo Lastimosa as both fired 18 points apiece, while rookie Art dela Cruz continued his rise with 13 markers, seven boards, and three assists in a losing effort.
