ANGELES – Ginebra coach Tim Cone was hardly worried that his team needed two overtimes to dispatch a lowly Blackwater team on Saturday night.

The champion coach also didn’t mind that the Elite, second to last in the standings, took his Gin Kings to the limit before carving out their fifth victory in nine games that assured them of a quarterfinal spot.

“These are the kind of games that our team, our guys need to play and battle for, reach deep for,” Cone said after the game. “These are character games, important times for us to develop as a team and as a unit.

“(But) it’s a lot more fun learning from wins than learning from our losses,” he was quick to add.

Playmakers LA Tenorio and Scottie Thompson stood tallest by knocking down a three-pointer each in the second extra session to rescue the Gin Kings.

Cone, however, was far from satisfied of reaching the first round of the playoffs.

“This is the only thing that we’re going to reach and were not going to be satisfied,” the American mentor said. “We got to get to the top six. That’s really the target.”
