BARAKO Bull learned the hard way it can’t put a deadly scorer down especially if he happens to be Terrence Romeo.

The Energy had early success contatining Romeo, until the Globalport shooting guard finally cut loose in the second half of a 94-85 win in their Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup playoffs duel on Christmas Day at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Romeo was held to just five in the first two quarters, before pouring in 28 big points in the last two quarters in helping the twice-to-beat Batang Pier end the Energy’s campaign in the all-Filipino conference.

The one-time UAAP MVP finished with a game-high of 33 points – his third 30-point game in the tournament - including 18 from three-point range.

Despite his scoring explosion, Romeo credited Barako Bull’s first half defense on him that allowed the Energy to enjoy as much as a 48-41 lead at the half.

“Nagulat kami sa depensang ipinakita ng Barako Bull. Nag-changing defense sila (from time to time). Although pinag-handaan naman namin yun during practice, siyempre iba rin naman yung actual game na,” he said.

“Luckily, pumasok na ‘yung tira ko (during the second half).”

With Romeo on track, the Batang Pier turned the game around in their favor in the third period and then delivered the coup de grace in the pivotal fourth when his final trey for the night sealed the outcome of the match in favor of Globalport, 90-78, entering the final two minutes.
