TERRENCE Romeo's availability for the Gilas Pilipinas under Chooks-To-Go banner for the Fiba Asia Champions Cup is still up in the air due to the ongoing PBA Governors' Cup.

His mother team, GlobalPort, is fighting for survival in the season-ending conference, where it needs to sweep its last three games to advance to the quarterfinals.

But the GlobalPort star said whether the Batang Pier makes the playoffs or not, he will ask the management for permission to suit up for the team representing the country in the Fiba Asia Champions Cup.

It's the least he can do to show people his commitment to play for the flag.

"Hindi pa sure kasi may game pa kami after Sunday. Siguro pag pumasok kami playoffs baka di ako payagan ng team," he said.

"Pero maga-ask pa rin ako permission. Gusto ko talaga basta para sa bansa. At least, alam ng mga tao na pagdating sa tawag ng country, di ako magdadalawang isip."

The charismatic guard was so committed he showed up in the team's first official practice at the Meralco Gym on Wednesday even when he's not supposed to.

He joined naturalized player prospect Isaiah Austin as well as former UAAP foes Jeron Teng and Jett Manuel in a light training that lasted for almost two hours.

Romeo was just glad to don the Philippine team jersey again and be in the same gym with his Gilas brothers that he even went one-on-one with Kiefer Ravena, Teng, and Fil-Am Robbie Herndon after practice.

"Ganada ako kasi pinangako na basta tumawag yung Pilipinas, pupunta talaga ako," he said.

"At least maraming bagong players ang matuto ng dribble drive system."

The Chooks-To-Go team flies to China on Wednesday in time for the tournament which starts on September 22.
