A PBA All-Star selection will not stop Terrence Romeo from proving he is one of the league’s fastest-rising stars.

The flamboyant Globalport gunner, who is set to make his All-Star game debut next month when he comes off the bench for the North squad, said his latest accolade will only keep him motivated.

“Malaking (karangalan),” Romeo said after the Batang Pier ripped Blackwater, 101-78, in Sunday's PBA Commissioner's Cup. "Naging proud ako dahil napasama ako ‘dun.

“Pero kailangan hindi ako mag-relax,” the Far Eastern University product was quick to add. “Mas kailangan kong pagbutihan para dun sa mga taong naniniwala na karapat-dapat ako sa part na ‘yun.”

Romeo, who doesn’t turn 23 until March 16, is the youngest in this year’s batch of All-Stars, but Batang Pier coach Eric Gonzales believes his prized player has shown maturity beyond years that makes him more than worthy to be included in the midseason spectacle in Puerto Princesa.

“Deserving siya,” Batang Pier coach Eric Gonzales told Spin.ph. “Napaka-sipag, napaka-aga sa ensayo, grabe mag extra shot, at grabe mag weights. He really values yung pagiging athlete niya kaya ni-re-reward rin siya ni God.”

Romeo, a possible candidate for the Best Players of the Conference plum, showed it why after pouring in a game-high 25 points, six rebounds, one assist,, and committing no turnover in 32 minutes of play against the Elite.

That performance, coupled with another splendid showing in a 99-81 rout of Barako Bull last Wednesday where he scattered 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting, three boards, and two assists, earned him the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week award.

With Gonzales having his complete trust in Romeo, the future looks brighter.

“If you’ve been trusted, be responsible,” Gonzales said. “Otherwise, mawawala sa’yo yung spot na ‘yun. Ang sinasabi nga namin: much is given, much is required. Embrace niyo yung role niyo.”

“Si Terrence, in-e-embrace niya yung role niya,” he added.
